Review of Killing Them Softly (2012) by Alasdair B — 13 Sep 2014
With a compelling cast and well written script, "Killing Them Softly" is a gritty crime film that shakes you to the core. First of all the acting is flawless. Scoot McNairy continues to impress me. Big things are headed his way. His performance was captivating. Likewise, Ben Mendelsohn gives one of his best performances ever. Brad Pitt is chilling yet charming in his role.
The film centers around the main hit man (Pitt) and the search for the two scalawags in trouble (McMairy and Mendelsohn).
Its a very cruel and dark film with a depressing, yet thought provoking, underlining message about America. Its not at all for everyone or anyone. Its not perfect, it lacks the energy say of Scorsese's "The Departed" but still remains captivating.
Well written, darkly and creatively shot, well acted, and full of whit, "Killing Them Softly" is a great crime film.
