Review of Killer's Kiss (1955) by Jason B — 16 Apr 2007
Directed by Stanley Kubrick.
Starring Frank Silvera, Jamie Smith.
A washed-up boxer comes to the rescue of pretty dancer neighbor whose rich suitor poses as a problem. Clocking only 67 mins., KubrickÕs noir leaves little for character development, suspense and climax. The story is easily foreseeable but KubrickÕs use of a narrative drive told in the first-person made it watchable. Its early Kubrick, and a good foundation with nice touches including a more-than-your-Hollywood fight scene and an equally interesting boxing match with tricky camera work. Plus, Kubrick was able to capture scenes of nighttime New York in all its naked glory. If anything at all, this is an interesting piece of work.
Best Scene: Mannequin fight.
