Review of Killer's Kiss (1955) by Andrew B — 19 Feb 2009
This once again proves to me Kubrick might be the greatest American director to ever grace us. Although this could have been the run-of-the-mill noir-thriller of this era, Kubrick manages to make it so visually arresting and interesting that you almost don't care about the consequential hamminess.
The story leaves some to be desired and the acting isn't top notch, so technically it's a little style-over-substance, but in my opinion it's more compelling than "The Killing." The way he filmed the fight sequences was especially intense - it almost feels like he picked up where Orson Welles left off.
..once again, a master ahead of his time.
