The story of a down and out boxer who is led down a road which leads him to murder and kidnapping after falling in love with a neighbouring woman. This film arguably has the unlucky task of being the worst film in Kubrick's filmography, although it's a fact that is perfectly understandable, given the fact that Kubrick's list of works is among the best a director can lay claims to, but also because of the fact that this was after all only his second feature length film.

Nevertheless, the film's black and white photography is faultless and makes even makes the plenty of moments lacking in energy look stunning. The storyline too isn't very exciting, and seems dragged in spite of the film's length.
