Review of Killers (2010) by Corey B — 22 Dec 2010
On paper this sounds really funny. Wife discovers that her husband is a CIA agent, and her neighbours, who are secretly trained killers set out to kill him. But on the screen, this just doesn't know what it wants to be.
The tone is too light to really convey any sense of danger or really funny moments of black comedy. But then it's too dark for the cheesy, sentimental finale to work (it pretty much ends with...I'm sorry you tried to kill me...and I'm sorry I killed all your trained assassins....ahhhhhh).
So, it's a mess, helped by an over eager cast. I normally don't enjoy Heigl, or Kutcher, but they're actually not too bad here. They're light, breezy, and kind of charming. Selleck is pretty funny, and O'Hara seems to get the tone more than anyone else (without her the ending would be a complete disaster instead of a partial disaster).
