Review of Killer Klowns from Outer Space (1988) by Brian F — 25 Jul 2012
I am with the small minority who simply cannot understand how this is such a beloved movie. After reading that it was considered a cult classic, I decided to watch it. In my opinion, it's pretty bad.
The acting is terrible, the special effects are terrible, the music is annoying, nothing seems to make sense, and the story/premise is so incredibly cheesy and corny that you'd think it was written by a 6 year old.
Although, the title alone is pretty much all the hint you need of what this movie is about. Apparently, it was supposed to be awful and was meant as a spoof/satire of campy 1950's sci-fi B movies and the B movie genre in general.
I suppose in that respect, it's a brilliant film and accomplished what it set out to do. But personally, I did not see it that way. To me, it was just a very poorly made movie that was neither scary nor that funny.
It does have some entertainment value, which is why I am giving it two stars. It will most likely appeal to people who like to watch bad movies and perhaps the average stoner. I've seen movies so bad that they're almost good, but this one is just plain bad.
I personally can't recommend it.
