Killer Joe is the film that needs to be appreciated. It had balls to be released with NC-17 rating and you have to respect this choice. If you love trashy, bizarre dark comedies you might like Killer Joe.
It's worth seeing alone for Matthew McConaughey's performance. If you don't like these types of films and are afraid of adult oriented material, then you should avoid it.
