Review of Killer Joe (2012) by Moraima D — 11 Mar 2013
'Killer Joe' is held together by strong characters/performances and an engaging story. You'll like it if you want to and hate it if you question it at all. Story relies on shock value often, but Friedkin helps make sure the style doesn't surpass the substance.
Matthew McConaughey is chilling in the title role, definitely one of my favorite performances of his. All his scenes with Dottie are great. Hirsch, Church and Gershon play hilarious trailer trash, especially Church.
Everything he says is hilarious and I died when Gershon pulled the string on his sport coat. The ending leaves a little something more to be desired, but altogether I enjoyed this. It's the best trailer trash film I've seen since 'Gummo'.
