This is a dark, disturbing, violent, sexually explicit, crime thriller about a crooked Dallas cop turned hitman. I had trouble following all of it, but the central theme is this: A young man named Chris Smith (Emile Hirsch) collaborates with his father Ansel (Thomas Hayden Church) and sister Dottie (Juno Temple) to kill his mother.
It's all about insurance money and a local Texas drug lord. This is where Joe Cooper (McConaughey) enters the picture. In truth, this one will not appeal to everyone and may be too much for the majority, but McConaughey looks like Joe Cooper and acts like Joe Cooper.
The performance is commendable.
