"McConaughey's best performance yet".
"Killer Joe".
Date Viewed: December 21 2012.
Rating: Four Stars out of Five.
Directed By William Friedkin (The French Connection and The Exorcist).
Screenplay by Tracy Letts, based on the play by Tracy Letts.
Starring: Matthew McConaughey, Juno Temple, Thomas Haden Church, Emilie Hirsch, and Gina Gershon.
40 years after directing "The Exorcist" and "The French Connection" Oscar-winning director William Friedkin still knows how to make a well-polished-stylized thriller. With a screenplay by Tracy Letts and based on Letts' play, "Killer Joe" is a shocking, brutal and lurid thriller with Matthew McConaughey giving the performance of his career.
Many of McConaughey's fans might be amazed to see him in this role but I found him mesmerizing. Some people might I say: "How could you recommend something so tasteless and despicable", well "Killer Joe" is shocking and brutal and it also carries that NC-17 rating but I think McConaughey is great and the cast is great even this is a tough movie to watch.
After making silly efforts like "The Guardian" (1990), Jade (1995), and Bug (2007). Oscar-Winning director Friedkin is back on top of his form.
With "The Lincoln Lawyer", "Bernie", "The Paperboy", and "Magic Mike" (which I didn't see). McConaughey is on a roll.
