Matthew McConaughey delivers an amazing performance that brings him back to the Oscar caliber turns that started his career. While this movie is uncomfortable, grimy and, for some, unwatchable, the performances and terrific direction of Freidkin make it worth the watch, if only just for the fantastic performances.
