Review of Killer Joe (2012) by Lewis E — 06 Aug 2013
'Killer Joe' joins the list for the most weird, messed up films ever, but that doesn't mean it is not good. Matthew McConaughey sends shivers down your spine as the cold hearted contract killer who is hired by a son to kill his mother for a life insurance payout.
I know.... sounds messed up already init. It becomes less about the planned killing and more about how this screwed up family are just a bunch of wastemen. The director teaches a lesson in how to expertly build tension, a few gripping extended scenes demonstrating use of great pacing and script.
Your eyes will not leave the screen due to the belief that anything can, and most likely will, happen. Furthermore, It's dark humour will have you laughing more than you thought you would. The ending, which shows a new use of a chicken drumstick, is sudden and bizarre to say the least but it left me satisfied and I am glad to see normal conventions not being followed.
Blu-ray purchase is imminent.
