Review of Killer Joe (2012) by Steve F — 30 Aug 2013
It's a film in which you think to yourself, "What in the hell did I just witness?" after viewing it. But it is one wild ride, and an unforgettable experience, if you're able to stomach the material at hand.
The characters are vile, their actions are despicable, and they live in a sleazy world of greed and bad decision-making, but you just can't help but take your eyes off of their messy situation because you never know what will happen next.
And the writing is brilliant in spots, encompassing elements of twisted humor. Performance-wise, of course McConaughey stole the whole damn movie, giving us one of his disturbingly best performances ever, and the whole supporting cast gives it their all as well.
