Review of Killer Joe (2012) by Rocknblues 8 — 01 Feb 2014
WOW....This movie quite a sight to see. William Friedkin is best known for his great 70's movies (like similar directors Coppola and Sidney Lumet) but he gave us a pretty good crime thriller/black comedy here. After several years of mediocre films Matthew McConaughey begins his "hot period" with this awesome performance as a sleazy detective that gives a shit about no one but himself.
Thomas Hayden Church is great as the sleazy dad that is willing to go along with his sons plan to kill hims mother for financial gain. Gina Gershon is decent as the oversexed (Gee, what a real stretch, huh?) step mother who is a schemer all her own. Juno Temple as "Dottie" is pretty much the only character that is somewhat likable... And I know that will put a lot of people off, but if you're curious to see a 70's director find a 2nd life at a really old age and you're open to films with mostly detestable characters, I would suggest that you give this one a shot.
