Review of Killer Elite (2011) by Kok Chieat W — 15 Apr 2012
Danny (Jason Statham) and his mentor Hunter (Robert De Niro) are members of Britain's Elite Special Air Service in 1980, and after an assassination Danny decides to throw in the towel. One year later, Hunter is kidnapped by Sheikh Amr and tells Danny he will release Hunter if he finds the three men responsible for the murder of his three sons - but it's not that simple. He needs to have them confess on camera to killing them, and then make their deaths look like accidents.
Danny enlists some help and sets out to accomplish the job, all the while being tracked by Spike (Clive Owen), a mysterious man assigned to protect those Danny are targeting.
Supposedly this is based on a true story, which makes sense because it's not a typical spy flick. Everyone from both sides do some very stupid things that get themselves in trouble. It wasn't necessarily a bad film, but it was very long. Longer than it should've been. And De Niro isn't that type of action guy - he's more a mobster action guy. Statham fits the role like a glove, because he's basically typecast as an action guy. Just an okay film.
