Review of Killer Elite (2011) by Matt M — 21 Aug 2012
Awful, awful film. Takes a fairly accurate novel by ex-SAS man Sir Ranulph Fiennes about a hit on some SAS troopers who'd been involved in defeating the communist Dhofar Rebellion, by some Omani communist terrorists, and makes the assassins the heroes(!) & the SAS a bunch of bungling bad-guy mooks who'd killed this poor Sheik's 3 sons.
Even the Battle of Mirbat - now used as a textbook example of how you hold a position against overwhelming odds, where 8 SAS troopers & 100 trainee soldiers held off against 250 insurgents - is portrayed as if we fared badly.
Why does Hollywood *always* have to make Britain the bad guy, even when the history shows us to be the heroes?
