Review of Killer Elite (2011) by Jay L — 26 Jan 2012
"Nothing or nobody is what it seems...".
A masterful story of espionage and covert elements that quite simply confused the hell out of me, but also stunned me at the same time. Killer Elite is the ultimate cat and mouse game film that weaves through one hell of an intricate maze of cover-ups and deception. It's jam-packed with jack-hammer, full-throttle action throughout, it features awesome chase sequences, intensely realistic shootists, including the beginning sequence which was quite reminiscent of the shoot out in the middle of Michael Mann's "Heat" and intricate, smart, intelligent and cerebral storytelling that's captivating beyond all belief. A film that really wraps you up in a thick cloud of cover-ups, lies, deception, greed and a multitude of awesomeness. Astonishing, gripping, intense, intricate, smart, cerebral, fresh and slick, Killer Elite is a great film. Certainly it's far from the best film to come out this year, but with that being said, it a magnitude of fun and a super slick grill ride through espionage and downright covert operations where everything is not as it seems. it's one of those movies that is guaranteed to confuse the hell out of you, but towards the end everything unravels flawlessly and makes, strangely enough, an abundance of sense. Director Gary McKendry and company did a spectacular job of bringing this more than odd, but true story to the big screen.
Jason Statham, Robert Deniro and Clive Owen, let's be honest here, this is a dream trio and they most definitely do not disappoint. Statham nd Deniro are stated against Clive Owen and company and this makes for an intensely gripping and rip-roaring movie-going experience.
