Review of Kill Your Darlings (2013) by Seth L — 05 Mar 2014
For someone who only really appeared on the acting scene two years ago, Dane DeHaan has fashioned quite a name for himself, and his performance here is nothing short of astounding - absolutely the crowning achievement of the film.
Radcliffe certainly impresses in his role (couldn't take his American accent seriously, though), but DeHaan is simply a scene stealer in every sense of the word. Other than its actors, Kill Your Darlings has a lot to offer in its story and script department - both are very solid, although each has its boring moments.
I wasn't too into all the poetry stuff that the characters were constantly rambling about, but there was usually enough drama going on in the background to keep my eyes on the screen. I guess it was just nice to see that Radcliffe definitely has a career ahead of him outside of the Potter franchise - it's made clear that he's more than capable of carrying a film; I just wish his American accent didn't stand out so much.
