Review of Kill Your Darlings (2013) by Ara B — 23 Nov 2013
The movie succeeds from its massive and talented cast, who are able to give the aimless plot a little structure. There's Daniel Radcliffe, playing meek and petty, DeHaan has plenty of charisma and charm, and Ben Foster steals the show as the mumbling William S.
Burroughs. Even though the rest of the cast have less screentime, they perform wonderfully. You've got Michael C. Hall, Jack Huston (he was cool), Kyra Sedgwick, Elizabeth Olsen, Jennifer Jason Leigh (unrecognizable to me but amazing), and David Cross all chubby and old looking.
The script itself is pretty weird, tossing a little bit of everything. The direction was pretty cool too, with extra facial closeups and strange musical score choices. Kill Your Darlings isn't anything spectacular or amazing, but its cast performs very well.
