Review of Kill Theory (2009) by Ricky R — 17 May 2010
Would you kill someone in order to ensure your own survival. I'm not talking 'self-defense" but cold-blooded killing. This film explores that avenue to varrying results. A group of college friends are suddenly pitted against each other after a mysterious man instructs them to kill each other so that only one person remains alive. If more than one person remains by the deadline, everyone dies. Thus, turbulent relationships are challenged and friendships are questioned. And yes, the killing begins.
What worked: the acting was pretty spot on... except for the doctor in the opening... he was a bit grating. Everyone else did really well with what they were given to work with.
What lagged: some of the writing was a bit off... hysterics occured at inopprotune moments and seemed more forced than real. The conclusion was a bit anticlimatic. And a character that I liked did what I say I would do in a horror movie and it did not pay off for her!
What failed: Well, this is supposed to be one of "The Eight Movies to Die For" and honestly, this is not horror. This is a thriller. It would have fared better ahd it not been attached to something like "horror-fest" but then again, Horror-fest is mostly a joke anyway.
