Review of Kill the Irishman (2011) by Cierra B — 22 Apr 2011
Ray Stevenson did an excellent job as Danny Greene. He was charismatic, brave, and larger than life. As a die-hard fan of his, while watching the film, there were parts in which I actually forgot it was him. I'm glad I read the book, as it gave me a general idea of who Danny was; and Stevenson nailed it. The rest of the cast did a great job as well, of course.
The movie itself seems to get a lot of slack. Most people say it's a mob film wanna-be, but that's not what it's about. Mob movies are mostly fictional; the story of Danny Greene is as real as it gets, the story of one REAL man taking down the mafia, just by sticking to his guns (literally and figuratively). Yeah, it was low budget, and just like every film out there, it had it's flaws. But it's a true story; it's not supposed to be the 'perfect' Hollywood stuff that it's being compared to. I gave it 5 stars, based on the acting, the way it stuck to the real story, and because it's probably the best film adaptation of a book adaptation of real life that I've ever seen.
