Review of Kill the Irishman (2011) by Andrew P — 09 Jan 2012
Kill the Irishman hits every single note in the rise-to-power gangster formula to the T, and therefore is one of the most predictable viewing experiences I've ever had. I knew exactly what was going to happen minutes before it was going to happen; I even was able to predict all of the dialogue down to a couple words. Everything about the movie is so familiar, you'll swear you've already watched it before.
That being said, while the film follows a cookie cutter rise-to-power formula, it does so very well. It's full of entertainment and emotional satisfaction, and whereas plot predictability is usually a negative thing, for me it became a fun and endearing dynamic to point out and identify all of the cliches. I'm almost tempted to speculate that this was done purposely. Probably not, but I enjoyed myself anyway.
