Review of Kill List (2011) by The D — 02 Jan 2012
So there was a lot of hype about this film. Was there? Really? I hadn't heard much at all & to be quite frank having watched this mess I'm surprised there were any murmurs at all!
It starts off a your basic soldiers turned hitman taking on a contract to eliminate 3 targets. The hitmen are Jay & Gal (Maskell & Smiley). Financial worries force the pair to take on the work, the first since an undetailed botch job some months ago.
As the job progresses the world seems to become murkier at each turn but never really explained to any extent. Jay, already an edgy character, quickly begins to lose his grip with violoent consequences as Gal looks for the first available exit for both of them. When their employers refuse to release them from the contract the tale takes it's final disturbing tale..
So here I have avoided the only key spoiler that the movie posseses. The sound is terrible making much of the dialogue inaudible although fortunately it's largely irrelevant. The play just trickles from one part to the next with no tension or current. The final scenes are also so dark that you can't really tell who is who.
It's just a poor movie & when you look at Maskell throughout you just keep thinking either Danny Dyer actually turned this down, was ill or otherwise engaged!
