Review of Kill List (2011) by Charlie M — 03 Nov 2014
Experiencing tough times financially and crumbling marriage, an English hitman and his mate take a lucrative job, but with each target the assassins slowly become shake to their core.
Now, when this movie first begins I started to wonder how it was a horror. It begins very slowly introducing the family and friends of Jay, who I didn't even realize was a hitman until a ways into the story. The way it's filmed makes it feel very grounded and real, like a bleak mumblecore about domestic squabbles in suburban London. All that is just to ground you in reality before a dark ambiance sweep over. The 3 seemingly random targets have such a grime and real-world darkness that the movie becomes very foreboding.
You have to be patient, but once it's over it'll creep you the hell out, and stay with you for a while.
