Review of Kill Bill: Vol. 2 (2004) by Michael Paul M — 08 Feb 2013
Inasmuch as "Kill Bill Vol. I" is an action movie, "Kill Bill Vol. 2" is an all out love story. What Tarantino does here is ratchet-down the gore and introduce us to why we should care about Kiddo and Bill, and, eventually, their child, Bebe.
Now: that isn't to say that KBV2 is all puppy dog smiles and rainbows. What I consider to the the best cinematic brawl in history goes down between Kiddo and Elle Driver, played by the grossly underemployed Daryl Hannah.
I struggle with KBV2 simply because it feel uneven to me, and the sub-plot concerning Pai Mei (Gordon Liu) is about seven minutes too long for my patience, but, otherwise, it's a nice shot of estrogen against the testosterone-soaked KBV1, and it closes the epic of the Bride in glorious fashion.
