Review of Kill Bill: Vol. 1 (2003) by Bheema D — 16 Jun 2014
Quentin Tarantino proves that he is in fact "that guy who did Resevoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction." In fact, in a strictly directorial sense, he is better than "that guy who did Resevoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction.
" What Tarantino does with the camera, the color, the various mediums, his casting and his choreography of that cast has few rivals. While the plotting of the movie as a whole puts style over substance, the meticulous care of each individual scene is part of what makes Kill Bill shine, built upon a sturdy foundation of great actors.
The fighting is over-the-top and a little trying towards the end, but you know that this was intentional and adds to the movie's charm. In short, Kill Bill Vol. 1 has a major flaw or two, but it brings enough to the table to justify it's staying fame.
