Review of Kill Bill: Vol. 1 (2003) by Nico S — 13 Nov 2015
I like and dislike this film, and probably for reasons that are going against the popular opinion.
Simple tale of vengeance told well in an interesting way, unique characters and good screen plays are the highlight of the volume one for me personally. The soundtrack is also quite good, most of the time.
The set-feel and cinematography make it feels a bit like a old kung fu flip, or kind of like a tv show. While I like Uma Thurman as the lead character, I found her skill as an assassin unconvincing, unless when it's played by a double and the difference is easy to tell. The much mentioned fight-scene at the restaurant is successful in making some comic moments, but not much else. It is really too long, and quite honestly unimpressive to me. I actually like the open fight scene in the house much better.
