Review of Kidulthood (2006) by Sabrina M — 15 Jun 2008
Set in London following what are for lack of any other way to describe them, 'Charva teens' and written by Noel Clarke this is a strong film which even my Charva hating brother enjoyed.
Framing all the sex, drugs, and fucked up teens is a Romeo and Juliet story which although left to one side for most of the film takes a major part in the finale. The soundtrack if you like a bit of grime and UK hip hop (like me) is very good although you will hear the same artists, different songs a number of times.
So, it's sort of a British take on movies like 'La Haine', not really that original especially the gangster side, but executed really well.
