Review of Kidulthood (2006) by Rotimi A — 14 Jan 2009
I laugh in the face of anyone who considers this movie to be some sort of revelation of London seedy other side, because quite frankly, you would be wrong. The experiences of inner city teenagers are similar to what is depicted here, but this movie is a little sensationalized and over hyped. I don't know why people act so surprised that teens have sex, do drugs and partake in stupid behaviors considering it happens everywhere. Weren't we all teenagers at some point?
That said I enjoyed the movie. Competent acting, strong visuals and a great Grime soundtrack made this an enjoyable watch. Maybe even a favorite? Personally I can't wait to go back, I <3 London, youth vandals and all.
