Review of Kids (2013) by Michael K — 29 Mar 2009
I donâ??t quite understand where the negative press for this film comes from, particularly comments about loathsome characters and behaviour because all I saw when watching this was teenagers behaving like teenagers, complete with misinformed and culturally influenced characters.
Is it realistic or a big sensationalist deviation from the norm? Donâ??t know. Is it a provocative piece of film making that generates debate and discusson? Yes. Thereâ??s a real flippancy in the filmâ??s male protagonists that is as chilling as anything from Henry: Portrait Of A Serial Killer and itâ??s probably here where most people switch off.
I donâ??t know why because this is a searing, uncomfortable, anger-inducing, depressing and fascinating piece of American independent cinema .
