Review of Kids (2011) by Garett T — 06 May 2008
Simultaneously fascinating and disturbing, this tragic, documentary-esque film harbors some great (if not simply all too real) performances, particularly from Chloë Sevigny, Justin Pierce and Leo Fitzpatrick. What is most startling is how little they improvised; the actors rarely strayed from the screenplay.
This film was appropriately rated NC-17 for the material, though it was released unrated. While I don't believe most kids should see this AS KIDS, it may be good to see in hindsight to witness the reality that today's society puts kids into, and to see how ignorant to the rest of the world kids can be.
Certainly worth watching, but just know it ain't no Sound of Music; be ready to see it all.
