Review of Kids (2011) by Matt G — 08 Jun 2008
Fantastic performances and a harsh realistic envirionment makes this film a shocking glimpse into the still dangerous world of teenage carelessness. Maybe the only Harmony Korine film with a definitive driving force, and it is made so well by Clark, whose films always seem to have a gripping use of sound and suspense.
The events, from beginning to end, give the story an aura of fragile hostility that makes it feel as if it could burst into pure chaos at any second. It reminds me so much of an experience I had, when it seems like I met most of these "kids" and got a taste of exactly what the film is portraying.
The emotions were familiar to me, which is possibly why I loved this so much.
