Review of Kidnap (2017) by Neil C — 24 Apr 2017
I had the (mis)fortune of seeing this movie in theater at an early screening. It's a movie that connects audiences: while the weekly mystery movie usually attracts a diverse crowd, we were all laughing at how bad the movie is in the end. Sadly the first quarter or so of the movie is just plain boring and it took everyone a while to catch on to how bad it is, but once the action gets started its one hoot after another.
Halle Berry delivers an atrocious performance, the camera is confusing and the story can't decide if it wants to be boring or bad. However, each of the action scenes is a treat as Berry overcomes a terrible situation to luck into another, each bringing her closer to her son and a hilarious conclusion.
An honest so-bad-it's-funny movie, even if the start is a bit dry.
