Review of Kidnap (2017) by Patricia W — 11 Oct 2017
Kidnap, as you would expect, is about a boy that's been kidnapped and his mother who is determined to get him back at any cost... and that's literally all the plot there is. This movie is a complete mess, It starts off extremely slowly with a 5 minute montage of home videos of the boy and then a contrived scene of the mother working in a cheap diner with rude customers. Once the boy is kidnapped and the action starts, this movie quickly goes from tedious to ridiculous with Halle Berry driving like a mad woman and cars flipping over on the highway. The dialogue is extremely cheesy and the plot has so many holes it may as well be Swiss cheese. This movie tries really hard to create tension and excitement but it's so ridiculous, illogical and over the top that you'd think it was parody.
This is an awful misstep for Halle Berry, who is far too good of an actress for this dross and the poor script and direction has her talking to herself like a crazy woman and overacting to the point where it becomes comedic. Absolutely skip this one, even though it's only 82 minutes long, it's not worth your time.
