Review of Kicking and Screaming (1995) by Nate H — 13 Feb 2009
There some pretty good laughs in here (particularly him at the coffee shop and some of the scenes with Ditka), but the plot is really skip deep in terms of anything unique or engaging. By the time the end comes around, it's unfortunately dull to watch.
There's also a lot of needless touches (the lesbian parents with their Asian child, Robert Duvall's commericals) that could have possibly been made funny but seem just thrown into the movie. The movies feels like a missed opportunity since many of the jokes just fall flat on delivery and there's no real weight to the actual story.
And poor Robert Duvall. He has almost nothing worthwhile to do in the whole movie other than be "the bad guy".
