Review of Kick-Ass (2010) by Nirvan B — 02 May 2013
The film took one of Millar's more interesting and engaging miniseries and removed most of his uncomfortable racist undertones and odd ideas about sexuality. Unfortunately, it replaced those quirks with bland, formulaic Hollywood story progression, and it destroyed the two highest points of the source material in the process, by removing or prematurely revealing Kick-Ass' plot twists.
Nic Cage, god bless him, couldn't make up for this, as it turned a flawed-but-worthwhile work into just another generic, uninspired underdog story/superhero parody.
