Review of Kick-Ass (2010) by Damjan R — 02 Jun 2013
An interesting film gets undercut by some questionable scripting and flash and dash direction. It's all a bit campy to boot, which was never my cup of tea but within the context of the film it works fine.
The acting here is in service, and varies enough to be uneven, where some ham it up (Cage) while some play it pretty straight (Johnson). Visually the film has a couple of nice film to comic transitions, but other than that it's nothing that warrants mention.
For fans of the violent and over the top, this is going to be a good time, but for fans of the subtle and nuanced, it's best avoided.
