Review of Kick-Ass 2 (2013) by Jacob M — 01 Feb 2014
Dave Lizewski (AT-J): I want to team up, like Batman and Robin.
Mindy Macready (Moertz): Nobody wants to be Robin.
Dave Lizewski (AT-J): What's wrong with Robin? Weren't you like Big Daddy's Robin?
Mindy Macready (Moetz): Okay, Robin wishes he was me.
I was so excited to see the this movie because I had liked the first one so much; unfortunately, like most sequels, this one failed to live up to the first film. I hate to admit it but I definitely missed "Big Daddy", he was a great character, much better than "Colonel Stars and Stripes". I also missed "Hit Girl", all throughout the movie, her trying to be normal was just ridiculous; the "Mean Girls" angle was silly, the film should have concentrated on Hit Girl and Kick-Ass' evolving relationship. It would have been a better storyline. "The Motherfucker" was a lame villain, although his henchmen, especially "Mother Russia" was actually awesome. Other than that, it was kind of entertaining but a bit short on real, good action sequences-- the highlight of the film wasn't even the final confrontation between Chris & Kick-Ass nor between Hit Girl and Mother Russia; the best action sequence was after the funeral scene. The most entertaining scene was the first few minutes between Mindy and Dave when Mindy basically goes through the same "techniques" Big Daddy taught her about guns, or rather not fearing guns or getting shot. Overall, I feel like this film shouldn't have been made at all; and the open ending leaves room for a possible third film, but a future film without Hit Girl, would just be so boring and I love Aaron Taylor-Johnson, but without Chloe Moertz, it wouldn't be half as interesting because she makes the film.
