Review of Kick-Ass 2 (2013) by Alec C — 28 Aug 2014
The toned down sequel to the over the top but acclaimed Kick Ass. Hit Girl is still the scene stealer although Mindy is now 15 and not 11, so the shock and awe is not so effective this time around. While Kick Ass has grown older he is still in need of a side kick and with Hit Girl in hiatus for most of the movie, joins other vigilantes in fighting reincarnated Red Mist now calling himself The Motherf***er. As with the first the hero group goes through a war of attrition until Hit Girl finally gets the better of her over protective guardian and pretty much gives the group the much need fire power to defeat MF's army. A parallel storyline shows the two teenage crime fighters battling with "growing up", Mindy stuck right in the awkward years and fighting peer pressure while Dave ready to move out into the real world.
Still a raucous movie and concludes with Hit Girl heading into exile leaving Kick Ass to fully develop into a "true superhero".
