Review of Khoobsurat (2014) by Nilesh J — 19 Sep 2014
Mili (sonam) is a physiotherapist who is quite outspoken and her mother (kirron kher) feels her daughter deserves a rich alliance. One day, Mili offers to fill up for her colleague by attending to the royal family of Sambalgarh because the man of the house Sekhar (Aamir raza) is a paralytic. All matters happen under the strict eye of the lady of the house Nirmala Rathore (ratna). Mili enters the disciplined house and things go for a toss. Even Nirmalaâ??s son Vikram (fawad) also dislikes her but things change at one point. What exactly happens forms the rest.
The director has come up with an predictable storyline and while the presentation was rich, the narrative was good. The dialogues were good. The script was expected and the screenplay was very tight for the most part, and good. The background score was melodious and three songs were worth watching. Cinematography was the main strength to this film. Editing okay but was required at few places. Costumes were well designed to suit the royalty while the art department was majestic. Sonam Kapoor looks cute and she is the soul of the film she gives a marvellous act, Fawad Khan looks good, and gives a restrained performance that is done well , Ratna Pathak was excellent, Aamir Raza was apt, Kirron Kher was entertaining. Others didnâ??t get much scope.
The film is meant to be a remake of the original which came in the 80s but it is more of an ode. The first half revolves around elements of comedy, some romance and some drama. The interval bang was good and the film gets a bit serious before getting back into happy mode. Overall, Khoobsurat is a true blue disney film. There is a prince, there is his royal family and he falls in love with a so called imperfect women. So while sticking to this formula the film is still very enjoyable even though it is cliched, there are many hilarious moments also. Recommend watch for the young generation because the film offers what was excepted, a fluffy enjoyable chick flick... Well sort of a chick flick.
6.5/10.
