Review of Key Largo (1948) by Joel K — 06 Oct 2009
There are a couple of great instances of the use of mirrors, fabulous shadows throughout. Johnny Rocco's first shot on screen has to be one of the greatest ever. Lionel Barrymore,Edward G. Robinson, Bogart and Bacall make for a tremendous cast.
Claire Trevor won best supporting actress academy award for her role as Gaye Dawn. John Huston is a director whose films I always seem to love. Affectionate, but tres un-pc portrayal of Native Americans.
The boat at the end's name is Santana. Bogart has a collection of some of the absolutely most wonderful quotes in cinema history. Robinson portrayal of Johnny Rocco is astounding at times-- when he is so scared of the hurricane (which is such a great device in the film) and then at the end on the boat.
