A less adventurous turn from the legendary director John Huston, Key Largo is a satisfyingly exciting and dramatic thriller that will keep anyone entertained if they enjoy Bogart in his usual manner. In this movie, Bogart is trapped as a drifter and veteran between two equally deadly foes: a raging hurricane and a group of mobsters who have commandeered the florida hotel and are holding him and the guests at gunpoint until their escape boat arrives.

The performances are strong with Bogart giving another good performance in his steady career but it is Edward G. Robinson who is the star as the crooked and trigger-happy Johnnie Rocco, the head of the gang.

The pace may be slow and the action is brief at the end, but I thoroughly enjoyed Bogart's character as he developed. I kept waiting for him to strike back at the tormenting gangsters but the more he waited to turn, the more the movie compelled me.
