Review of Kevin Hart: What Now? (2016) by Travis H — 14 Oct 2016
I've always been in a weird divide of Kevin Hart's comedy. While I did find some enjoyment in Grown Little Man and Seriously Funny, I've always found him a bit repetitive and over reliant on his crazy facial expressions to sell the jokes. And What Now is a cinematically ambitious stand up with not so memorable material even for Kevin's standards (there's no Bum Bump or Alright Alright Alright level standouts).
If you've seen his other film stand ups, you already know preceding always comes with a comedy sketch that generally drags and leaves a lot to be desired. The cinematography does show off the scale of the stadium quite well and the projections matching up with the jokes spoken off at the moment is a great sign of how comedy has gotten more visual.
In the end, see What Now if your a die hard Kevin Hart fan. If your in the middle like I am, you might be asking instead Is That It?
