Review of Kelly's Heroes (1970) by Stephen C — 21 Apr 2008
From the writer of the orginal Italian Job ,comes this cracking comic war movie.
When Clint Eastwood gains the knowledge that a bank behind German Lines Contains $16 million in gold ,he sets out with his band of men to seize it before the Generals arrive.
With him are Don Rickles (excellent) as a Hustler keen to make a quick buck.
Telly Savalas (Fab) as Clints C/O who just wants to find some women.
And last but by no means least Donald Sutherland as Oddball ,a Tank commander with one or two gears missing.
Sutherland is clearly having a ball here with his Dog impressions and his tanks playing Hank Williams JNR.
The film is packed with great action sequences and the final Western type is a Blast .
No one takes it too seriously and as a Viewer you shouldnt either, loads of fun.
