Review of Keep the Lights On (2012) by Callum M — 06 Nov 2012
Queer films usually fall into two categories; either they are high camp meta-trash à la John Waters or they are fumblingly sober and dull. There are rare exceptions, but "Keep the Lights On" is not one of them.
The film is almost plotless and is chock full of earnest navel-gazing, barely relevant sex scenes and poor actors doing their best with a characterless script. One to miss, by all accounts; go and watch Andrew Haigh's "Weekend" instead.
