Review of Keanu (2016) by Ergin S — 03 May 2016
"Keanu" is a movie purportedly about a kidnapped cat but becomes a drug, gang, and guns movie by the end. A man has his cat stolen in a burglary and he finds out a local gang stole the cat. The man and his cousin try to infiltrate the gang, looking for an opportunity to take the cat back.
The cat is definitely cute, but it is caught in the crossfires of this screwball and off-kilter comedy. The film has a lot of heart, but stylistically it doesn't know what kind of film it wants to be.
The cat is a backdrop to inane humor and violence that really detracts from the film. I call this kind of humor aimless and scatological. Parts were funny but most of the film was two guys trying to be hard when it's obvious they're not.
The film is tonally confused and settles for middle of the road cheap laughs ----------------------------------------- C+.
