Review of Keanu (2016) by Carlos M — 25 Jul 2016
Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele make the transition from the small to the silver screen with ease with their hilarious debut film; Keanu. Fans of the duo's sketch comedy show will fall head over heels for their cinematic outing that combines the show's chemistry and wit with a hollywood budget.
With a premise that's just as silly as one of their most memorable sketches, the plot never feels like it's stretched too thin as it's well paced and fast run time fly's by. Truthfully I haven't laughed THAT much in a film this year since Deadpool and this is due to Keanu's maintained sensibility of what made "Key and Peele" a joy to watch.
Terrific chemistry from the two leads, pop-culture references that feel fresh and an lenient adherence to realism amongst the absurdity. Only qualms could be is that it's a fish-out-of-water that is a well trodden path that Keanu doesn't do much to flip or make interesting.
However apart from that, Key and Peele have pulled off a fun lil film right here!
