Review of Keanu (2016) by Brett H — 14 Aug 2016
Keanu is the bizarre, but outrageously funny action comedy starring the hilarious duo of Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele as two men who have to pose as drug dealing bad-asses in order to get Peele's character's abducted cat, the aforenamed Keanu, back from criminals.
This movie is just as ridiculous as the trailer promised and I have to admit, I was pleasantly surprised by just how hilarious it was, fronted by the flawless chemistry between both Key and Peele! The supporting cast is excellent as well with Will Forte, Jason Mitchell, Method Man, and Luis Guzman, but it was newcomer Tiffany Haddish who stuck out most to me and I feel she will be the breakout star of this film.
As said, this film focuses on the kidnapping of a cat who they've affectionately named Keanu, simply from their enjoyment of actor Keanu Reeves, which tells you a little bit about the type of humour this film portrays.
The laughs were pretty much non-stop for me and there's a certain cameo that ends up being a real CAMEO that absolutely killed me and I couldn't stop laughing! The film is also commendable in its action scenes with competent direction and stunt-work that would normally seem out of place in a comedy like this.
If you're a fan of Key and Peele's brand of humour, this is a slam-dunk and I look forward to another successful project from the duo as they've clearly got comedic chops on the big-screen and can carry a movie themselves!
