Review of Keanu (2016) by Karen P — 18 Jul 2017
The slight misogyny with a very quick brothel joke and stripping with nudity needlessly exploitive and again very brief ...plus overuse of epithets like the n word is made up for in the rest of the picture that is sometimes anti-misogynistic and with likable leads and of course an adorable rescued kitten.
the 99% of the film that was good is not overshadowed by a few sprinkled in poor choices for the film. ordinarily though that additional exploitive crap is enough for me to give a film a low score...but with the likable premise and the message that was pro-animal and very sincere in the compassion for the kitten .
..well it was powerful and lovable enough to earn a very high score. and in short I think flaws and all, the film meant well. good message about caring for animals with your whole heart is the heart of a mostly very funny film.
just wished they left out the sex trafficking strip club marginalization and the b word due to the bloodshed in real life around that word and it's 'justification'. but yes extremely funny film, precious love between humans and companion animals , great comedy chemistry between the main charaters and one perfect little cat.
(it was rescued in real life too and the crew promoted animal adoption through the PR appearances for the film all through the media in a sincere fashion...purrrrfect).
