Review of Keane (2004) by Kirsten A — 08 Sep 2008
The ultimate Dardennes film the brothers never made. The Brothers were undoubtedly a huge influence on Lodge Kerrigan while making this film; same style of editing, cinematography, troubled, humane characters who just need a hand to help them, and definitely the same standard of great acting..which emerges just from this style of directing. Damian Lewis was magnificent and gave such a sensitive performance. There were some moments of suspense that would never be as effective if it wasn't for the silence.
However, the end baffles me a little; it is unsettling and you're clueless to what went through Keane's head at the end. Its neither hopeful nor hopeless.
